Meet the Browns

Their Present Living Room

The Brown’s came into Bassett and asked for help on their living room. The Browns are wanting to change their sofa, coffee table, and accent chair. Here’s what I came up with in my design:

Pieces are picked from Bassett Furniture Direct

I decided since they have a very white floor to help add some color would be to add an area rug and help keep the life of their carpet. They originally wanted one chair but talked about how they would like more seating. So, I added another chair and ottoman and pushed the furniture back to give this space more room.

Sofa is from our CU 2 collection with a sock arm. The Enizo chair adds to a much innovated design to this room and goes along will with the other dark woods in the room. The Brown’s also wanted a new coffee table without glass. This is part of our Cosmopolitan collection and adds beautiful lines and shapes to this space.

Fabrics!! The fun part of design is picking color. The Brown’s have huge windows which add in a lot of Green and they have two swivel rockers that have a lot of green as well;  which means they need more variety. Mrs. Brown loved the middle fabric is the geometric lines. This fabric has a lot of gray, green, yellow, and brown. I used the floral pattern as their accent pillows on the sofa to bring in some yellow and pull that color from the fabric I am putting on the chairs. This fabric even compliments the portrait we are adding to place above the fireplace. Talk about two pieces that belong together!! The top fabric is a Chenille that they both loved! It’s call Almond and they wanted something neutral with a soft cozy feel. As for this lovely area rug is where we are pulling a lot of color from. We’ve got cranberry, tan, beige, green, yellow, blue, and soft browns. Talk about adding a nice blend of array of colors.

Down below I added some lighting to help with this room at night and the metallic beige with a silver base looks great with the brass they have in their current pieces and the silver added from the end of our Cosmopolitan collect (Who ever said Gold and Silver can’t be mixed?). These cute little end tables will look fabulous on each end of our CU 2 sofa I added to this room.

This is going to be one room they will love coming home to. Relaxing and Cozy is what they wanted and the Brown’s came in with loving this design and we’ll have to wait for the end results once the furniture is done being fabricated.

Reupholstering Before Meets After

by tmariedesignwatches

OK, So this is/was my first attempt to reupholstering. I did this for a friend of mine and boy I did not know what I was getting into. These chairs were a pain to get the staples out of. The manufacture literally covered the chair with staples. These suckers almost took my eyes out! So wear safety GOGGLES! Once getting the staples out then it was time to put on the fabric. My friend purchased this lovely fabric from Joann’s for only $29.00 a yard. We ended up getting 3 yards for six chairs. I ended up using a staple gun from Hobby Lobby. I would recommend as well using a nicer stapler gun because that will give you a cleaner look with the staples. I am currently poor right now and can only use what I got.

Let me know what you think and/or helpful advice!

NKBA Fall Into Fashion 2011

This year I finally graduated from Liberty University 2011 with my B.S. Fashion and Interior Design with a minor in Business. Few months after graduating I received a job in San Antonio, Texas. Design Materials hired me as a full time receptionist to their firm, which they were known for their marvelous design in tile design. Within a few days literally I was thrown into this fall fashion show of Interior design featuring this  years looks and trends. The theme was to show business attire with this years design in interior design. I sponsored Design Materials for this amazing show.

This wonderful, and inspiring even was hosted by Light by Design, which they are known for their magnificent display of home interior lighting.  In the Magazine check out Pages 94,95

Can I do it?

by tmariedesignwatches

Next project is something I’ve never done before. It is Reupholstering and I am quite scared. But here’s a pic of what it is before and soon I’ll post the NEW 🙂

Ok, So this weekend I’d thought I would get a head start on working on this project. I used the same paint that I did for my coffee tables and end tables. Let me know what you think? I also believe I got more paint on me this time than I did on the last project.

OK so after adding the stuffing to this chair I realized that there was not enough support so I went and bought burlap which wasn’t too expensive you can get this at either Joann’s Fabric or Hobby Lobby. Also through this I realized that I am allergic to burlap, yah! totally scratched the heck out of my arm ha.

Next after getting this awesome chair covered in batting next is to find fabric that will complete this look. Not sure yet…. More to come 🙂

OK, So I know it’s been awhile since my last post. However, I DID finally find the fabric I want to use on my Chairs. First off I had to buy again more foam because it just wasn’t firm enough. This has been quite the learning experience for me and having started my job here at San Francisco Design I’ve learned a lot more of the construction of furniture and what good quality is. My foam is not the “greatest” foam out there. I got it at Joann’s and  I still think it’s good. What the difference is from other expensive foams are how long they will last. But I think I’m ok with what I got.

Now on to fabric; I chose birds.  The gray will totally  match my fabulous grey sofa and the yellow birds will give a hint of color. I am planning on putting this on the back of the chairs and doing grey on the front. I have to wait for my grey fabric to get in and then I can finally have real chairs again! ha  Let me know what you think!

OK I am finally getting some where with these chairs. Now I know this is not a perfect but to me it’s all a learning process.

Start of the fabric process

So after having these chairs since October that my good friend Jennifer gave to me I finally had the money to do something with it. I had originally bought about an 1″ of foam but this was not sturdy enough so I went and bought more foam 2″ this time and it feels so much better!!!

This part wasn’t hard. Just cut 30″ x 30″ square and stapled on.

Just need to add pipping and trim up around edges. Putting fabric around these arms was quite the challenge. You can even ask my friend Kelly who had to watch me on skype messing around with this bottom piece. I now have to order more fabric to do the other chair for I used all on this chair!

I purchase the foam from Joann’s. I had boughten some tacks from there as well but, as a advice from this don’t buy cheap tacks the SUCK!!! SO I went and bought new ones from Home Depo. These worked out some what better than the one’s from Joann’s. If you can find a good about online I’d buy tacks from their.
