NKBA Fall Into Fashion 2011

This year I finally graduated from Liberty University 2011 with my B.S. Fashion and Interior Design with a minor in Business. Few months after graduating I received a job in San Antonio, Texas. Design Materials hired me as a full time receptionist to their firm, which they were known for their marvelous design in tile design. Within a few days literally I was thrown into this fall fashion show of Interior design featuring this  years looks and trends. The theme was to show business attire with this years design in interior design. I sponsored Design Materials for this amazing show.

This wonderful, and inspiring even was hosted by Light by Design, which they are known for their magnificent display of home interior lighting.  In the Magazine check out Pages 94,95

Can I do it?

by tmariedesignwatches

Next project is something I’ve never done before. It is Reupholstering and I am quite scared. But here’s a pic of what it is before and soon I’ll post the NEW 🙂

Ok, So this weekend I’d thought I would get a head start on working on this project. I used the same paint that I did for my coffee tables and end tables. Let me know what you think? I also believe I got more paint on me this time than I did on the last project.

OK so after adding the stuffing to this chair I realized that there was not enough support so I went and bought burlap which wasn’t too expensive you can get this at either Joann’s Fabric or Hobby Lobby. Also through this I realized that I am allergic to burlap, yah! totally scratched the heck out of my arm ha.

Next after getting this awesome chair covered in batting next is to find fabric that will complete this look. Not sure yet…. More to come 🙂

OK, So I know it’s been awhile since my last post. However, I DID finally find the fabric I want to use on my Chairs. First off I had to buy again more foam because it just wasn’t firm enough. This has been quite the learning experience for me and having started my job here at San Francisco Design I’ve learned a lot more of the construction of furniture and what good quality is. My foam is not the “greatest” foam out there. I got it at Joann’s and  I still think it’s good. What the difference is from other expensive foams are how long they will last. But I think I’m ok with what I got.

Now on to fabric; I chose birds.  The gray will totally  match my fabulous grey sofa and the yellow birds will give a hint of color. I am planning on putting this on the back of the chairs and doing grey on the front. I have to wait for my grey fabric to get in and then I can finally have real chairs again! ha  Let me know what you think!

OK I am finally getting some where with these chairs. Now I know this is not a perfect but to me it’s all a learning process.

Start of the fabric process

So after having these chairs since October that my good friend Jennifer gave to me I finally had the money to do something with it. I had originally bought about an 1″ of foam but this was not sturdy enough so I went and bought more foam 2″ this time and it feels so much better!!!

This part wasn’t hard. Just cut 30″ x 30″ square and stapled on.

Just need to add pipping and trim up around edges. Putting fabric around these arms was quite the challenge. You can even ask my friend Kelly who had to watch me on skype messing around with this bottom piece. I now have to order more fabric to do the other chair for I used all on this chair!

I purchase the foam from Joann’s. I had boughten some tacks from there as well but, as a advice from this don’t buy cheap tacks the SUCK!!! SO I went and bought new ones from Home Depo. These worked out some what better than the one’s from Joann’s. If you can find a good about online I’d buy tacks from their.

Before & After

by tmariedesignwatches

OK, So you’ve probably have seen in my post about how excited I am with my many projects. And yes it’s true I bought these coffee table and end tables at a garage sale. She wanted $150 for them but I got them down to $100. 🙂 However they worn’t the color I wanted.

So I went to Home Depo and got Behr Premium Plus Deep Base black paint. Only got a quart and has been plenty. The hardest part of this project was sanding. Took a lot of time and strength. On the coffee table I used my sander and that was a time saver.

Still working on adding things. I got the wall stickers at Family Dollar for $3 and the candle holders on the wall same place for $5. The lamps a nice co-worker gave them to me. I plan on making them a project too in spicing them up a bit. 🙂  And table runner I got at Burlington Coat Factor for $16. I do plan on changing the pillows but that’s for a later date. What do you all think so far?

New Designs

by tmariedesignwatches

Ok, so in my down time at work I came across a really need firm called SICIS — The Art Mosaic Factory and within this site I found this amazing style of furniture.  The Behind look of what SICIS is :

SICIS, profile of a successful company 100% made in Italy The original idea behind SICIS…The first step was taken in 1987, when SICIS decided to turn its full attention to mosaic, setting the goal of moving this product from the annals of history into the modern age. This goal has been reached and exceeded, as demonstrated by SICIS’ collections and in the prestigious creations in which it plays a leading role throughout the world.

Now to add on to what I was drooling over when I came across this factory was their amazing bath tub they made. It’s called Audrey. This is one awesome tub if you are into fashion and interior design like me and if you crave over modern chic design.

Yes bloggers this is a shoe as a tub!!! How exciting is this!?!  Italian designer Massimiliano Della Monaca is the brain behind it. It is covered with precious glass mosaic in a style that stands out from the rest of the traditional geometric shapes. Shaped like an elegant pump shoe with a skyscraper heel, it allows for a perfect soak. Though it may not be an ideal thing to wear such a shoe, it certainly is well-shaped for a comfortable embrace, as the water trickling from above massages the shoulders of their occupant. While the heel is 165cm tall, the length is 270 cm. Starting at 13.000 € ($17,000), the tubs can be custom-made to your taste too. The platinum ones come for a $10,000 more that is at 20.000 € ($27,000).

Next I just thought this design was exciting to see it has a very unique style kind of like an egg shell cut in half with a stylish water flow into the tub it’s self. Now I don’t know who could afford such a tub but it looks like it would be very luxurious indeed!! 😀
